ANTISTATIC CASES
ELECTROSTATIC DISSIPATION (ESD)
ESD Protective Injection Molded Cases Electronic devices which are used in areas where a flammable or explosive atmosphere (hazardous location) may exist are often required to meet NFPA, OSHA, IECEx or ATEX safety standards. Besides requiring all components to stay below a safe temperature under operating and fault conditions, the standards also address the issue of electrostatic charge build-up on the electronics container. Research has shown that sparks resulting from the accumulation of surface charge on the container can trigger an explosion. In addition, electronic components themselves are susceptible to damage from electrostatic change and must be protected.
UWK ANTI-STATIC CASES
Underwater Kinetics continues to work with OEM customers who require cases for their electronic devices that meet the standards for Electrostatic Dissipation (ESD). We can mold any of the cases in our line from special plastic resins that are classified as permanently static dissipative. At 50% relative humidity the surface resistance is <1.0E+09 ohm surface resistance. Details of the requirement are contained in the standards IEC 60079-0 (section 7) or UL913.
